Marketing Events Hosted by the BMC

Marketing events – Hosted by the BMC. This is what the Business Marketing Club is all about. B2B marketers getting together, face to face, putting the world of marketing to rights. We host events throughout the year, full of healthy debate and coupled with food and drink in a relaxed environment.

Our events offer a perfect opportunity to network with peers, learn from marketers from different industries and meet potential mentors and agencies.

The best value marketing club around, highly recommended!Gareth Case - Marketing Director, CSC

Converge - The Big Fat Quiz of the Year

What a year in B2B marketing! Spend on brand experience grew. E-mail engagement and influencer marketing use increased. YouTube became the world’s most valuable brand. Next 15 snapped up Velocity Partners and Circle Research. Native video went social on mobile. B2B sales people complained about poor relationships with B2B marketers for the 200th consecutive year.

B2B marketers complained that they weren’t being paid enough for the 201st consecutive year. Marketers began to get to grips with the GDPR monkey.

It’s been difficult to keep track of all that’s happened. So the BMC created a pub style quiz to recap.

Getting Agencies and client-side B2B marketers together to answer some big, fat and fiendishly difficult questions about the world in B2B marketing, the world in general, and well, what happened in Love Island. There were no prizes it was just for fun and it was all about pride... obviously!

Converge - GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) represents a huge shake up to the way businesses are required to handle their customer data. Failure to get it right could result in big fines - up to €20MM or 4% of global annual turnover (whichever is greater) – so whilst it might have been okay for a business to disregard data protection in the past, it’s no longer a viable option.

There’s no shortage of people offering their services to help B2B marketers (for a tidy fee), or sharing their advice on the topic, but one size doesn't fit all.

As ever, the BMC team were here to help and our last session welcomed Paul Snell from B2B Marketing Magazine to speak about GDPR for B2B Marketers.

Client Club - Zen and the Art of Marketing Planning and Budgeting.

It’s the most exciting time of the B2B marketing calendar. Forget Christmas. Forget the marketing awards ceremonies. Forget the time when your stakeholders are on holiday. I’m talking about planning and budgeting season.

The time when marketers across the UK offer up their strategies and operational activities for the year ahead for business approval. The time when we all aim to get the business to agree to increasing the marketing budget.

But what’s the best way to go about doing this? How can you persuade the sternest FD to agree to your requests? What are the tricks of the trade? Indeed are there any? How do you keep your head when departments all around you are falling by the way-side? And is any of this faff really necessary anyway?

At the last club night we got together some of the finest B2B marketers in the business to discuss how they go about marketing planning and budgeting.

Client Club - There’s no such thing as differentiation in B2B Marketing.

Thirty years ago, marketing messiah Theodore Levitt declared: "The search for meaningful distinction is a central part of the marketing effort.. If marketing is about anything, it is about achieving customer-getting distinction by differentiating what you do and how you operate. All else is derivative of that and only that.”

Hold on a minute. Sorry Theodore, but most of us work in industries where there is little (if anything) to differentiate our B2B organisations from our competitors. We go to market with essentially the same products and services, at about the same price, targeting the same customers through the same channels with much the same content. Further, many of our brands are indistinguishable.

So, how do we create differentiation for our organisations in our markets? This was the debate for the October Club night.

Recently there's been only one acronym on everyone's lips and that's GDPR! This month the London BMC met to help and advise by organising a discussion with key speakers for B2B marketers on GDPR.

There are no shortage of legal teams offering their services to help B2B marketers (for a tidy fee natch), but aside from that there’s actually very little publicly available and impartial advice on the same.

After the success of our London Converge we have decided to run a similar event in the East Mids taking place on November 30th.

South West - 12th September 2017

Already well established in London and the Midlands, the BMC has recently launched in the South West.

We’re working to create and build a strong regional network to support the profession and want to find out what South West based B2B marketers want and need to help them and the businesses they represent.

For our first South West event, we held a breakfast meeting at CBRE’s South West office in Bristol and heard from two very different B2B marketers –

Dave Stevens, Marketing Director at British Land and Chair of the BMC and Helen Woodcock, Marketing Manager at Bristol-based data systems consultancy KETL.

East Mids BMC Converge - The Future of B2B Marketing.

B2B marketers live in an era of unprecedented change and upheaval. Never before has the profession been changing so quickly or so profoundly. And never before have marketers had to work as hard to react, respond and reinvent themselves to ensure they are relevant.

The BMC met in Nottingham during September to discuss, "The future of B2B marketing". We lined up a diverse mix of speakers, from different B2B industries, to share their views on the future of B2B marketing. Read more about the event by visiting our blog!
